Jakarta, Monday, September 30, 2024 – The Provincial Government of Jakarta, through the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Department, participated in the prestigious Incentive Travel & Convention Meeting Asia (IT&CMA) 2024, held in Bangkok, Thailand from September 24 to 26, 2024.
“This participation in IT&CMA is a very timely opportunity for Jakarta,” said Andhika Permata, Head of the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Department. IT&CMA is recognized as the largest trade exhibition dedicated to Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) in the Asia-Pacific region, and it serves as a critical opportunity for Jakarta to strengthen its image as a premier MICE destination.
Jakarta’s Strategic Move in the International MICE Forum
Andhika highlighted that with the capital city relocation, Jakarta faces new economic challenges, particularly in maintaining its status as a business hub. “One of Jakarta’s strategic responses is to strengthen the MICE industry,” he said. “The MICE industry has great potential to be an economic growth engine by attracting business visitors, expanding business networks, and increasing investment. Participating in IT&CMA is an ideal moment for Jakarta to solidify its position as a leading MICE destination.”
Helma Dahlia, Secretary of the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, added that IT&CMA 2024 features more than 600 exhibitors and over 1,200 buyers from around the world. “This event allows Jakarta to showcase its capabilities and infrastructure in hosting large-scale international events, while also promoting the city’s potential in the MICE industry,” she said.
This year, Jakarta brings the tagline “Jakarta Nice for MICE”, underscoring its readiness and competitiveness as a top-tier MICE city on par with other global destinations.
Boosting Tourism and Economic Growth
Sherly Yuliana, Head of Marketing and Attractions at the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, emphasized that Jakarta’s participation in IT&CMA presents a significant opportunity to boost tourist arrivals. “By introducing Jakarta as a competitive MICE destination on this international stage, the city can attract more event organizers, delegates, and business players to hold their events in Jakarta,” she explained.
Furthermore, the ripple effect from an increase in international events hosted in Jakarta will positively impact the hospitality, transportation, culinary, and local tourism sectors, contributing to the growth of leisure tourism alongside MICE activities.
The Jakarta Provincial Government is working in synergy with several tourism industries at IT&CMA 2024, including Hotel Ayana Midplaza Jakarta, Jakarta Convention Center, Pan Pacific Jakarta, Panorama Destination, Pullman Jakarta Central Park, and Wyndham Casablanca Jakarta. “Jakarta’s presence at IT&CMA opens up opportunities to expand tourism promotion, particularly in business tourism, which can drive MICE visitor arrivals,” Sherly concluded.
